HISTORY
The Damapel company was founded in 1990 by Daniele Kauffmann following the historical leather trading and agency business created by Mr Federico Kauffmann in 1925 in Italy, later continued by the son Renato Kauffmann through the company Kauffmann Sas, until the foundation of the company Damapel Sas.
The Kauffmann family that came from Germany had a tannery which was settled in Stuttgart that was bombed during the first world war. When the war ended part of the family relocated to Milano where they began to develop a business in leather trading and agencies.
During the following decades, Kauffmann's family continued this activity in Milano being agent of some of the most famous tanneries and tanneries-group in europe: Adler-Oppenheimer group, British tanning, Wiltz, Brabantia, Megisserie Richard, Curtidos Gregori and others.
TODAY
In recent years Damapel developed mainly leather importation from foreign countries like Turkey, Spain, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, South America.
Damapel is specialized in high quality skins of baby calf and lamb which we currently import in the different tanning phases such as finished-crust or wet-blue; the retannage of wet-blue is made in collaboration with italian tanneries sector-leaders.
In addition to the import sector, Damapel is specialized in made in Italy leather processing, collaborating with some of the most important tanneries in our country. In our laboratory in Italy we develop first tests and samples, new finish-colors on the different types of leathers proposed.
Damapel suppliers are classified with LWG in order to guarantee that all the tanning processes are developed with sustainable and ecological treatments, also with regards to some tannage done Chrome or metal free.
Damapel partners follow all the ISO-UNI regulations related to the tannage process and growth treatment and the REACH_EPA regulations.
Damapel supplies some of the most important italian and foreign companies in fashion, for shoes-leather goods and the garment industry. Damapel can be a steady partner, offering to the customers a long term know-how which was developed thanks to continuous contacts with the most important leather industries all over the world, and guaranteeing a wide range of products at the highest market quality level.
